New rider alert: Peyton Burckel steps up with EF Education–Aevolo
American rider is our first new U23 signing for 2026

Peyton Burkel is our first new signing for next season, joining EF Education–Aevolo on a long-term contract.
Just 18, but with two distinguished years within the EF Education–ONTO junior team, Peyton is ready to step up to the U23 ranks next year and start the next chapter in his journey in the sport.
“I wanted to make the next step with an American team and with EF Education–ONTO, and now EF Education–Aevolo, it feels like they really believe in me. I’d rather go to a program that backs me like that than another team where I don’t feel as well supported. It was wild when the team offered me the chance to sign for them. It happened so fast and was hard to believe, but it’s been what I’ve been dreaming of for so long,” Peyton told us.
“With EF Education–Aevolo, I just want to keep moving forward and making progress. Ultimately, it’s about having a long and successful career, but I want to start that process in the right environment, and it feels like I’ve made the right choice. It was a good sign that the team were keen on me. My dream is to make it to the WorldTour and stay there for as long as I can. I want to do the biggest races, win a couple, and EF Education–Aevolo feels like a team that can help me make that a reality,” he said.
EF Education–Aevolo Head Sports Director Mike Creed has been closely following Peyton’s development as a junior over the last few years, and with the insight from our Head of Scouting, Sebastian Langeveld, who was pivotal in bringing Peyton onto the U23 team for next season, Creed believes that the team has signed a rider of immense potential.
“We’ve been following Peyton for a while now, and he was 12th in a really tough edition of the road race at the junior worlds in 2024, but he’s certainly more than just one result. He won Green Mountain Stage Race last year, too, and I first spotted him at a track camp, and he immediately stood out because, for someone of his relatively small size, he had a lot of speed. He’s had a tricky 2025 because he broke his collarbone at the start, but what we’ve seen from Peyton on and off the bike over the last couple of seasons is a rider who is talented and ready for EF Education–Aevolo. We have a lot of faith in him,” Creed said.
Peyton is a punchy rider with a strong kick in tough finishes or on the flat, and Creed believes that the young rider will settle into his new environment with the American rider heading to Europe for his first EF Education–Aevolo training camp later this month. It’ll be a chance for all the returning and new U23 riders to immerse themselves in the relaxed yet professional culture of the team and plan out the upcoming season.
“Peyton is going to prove his qualities next season, I do not doubt that. The step between junior and U23 riders is different for all athletes, but what we’ll ensure is that he shows his capabilities. That comes in different ways, of course, through results but also with off-the-bike progress that’s perhaps not always as tangible or clear right away. That means showing patience with him, but hopefully we’ll see him at his best in 2026 and the coming years,” Creed added.
